There are so many issues affecting the world today that it's difficult to cover everything going on in just one blog post. To that end, on some days I will present a second post at 6:15 AM, EST. It will be called the Eye widener for [INSERT DATE HERE] and as indicated by the release time above, it will be posted fifteen minutes after the Eye opener for [INSERT DATE HERE]. Now, into today's post.
Why do politicians seem so incapable of solving problems today? In the United States, most Americans are coming to a consensus that money has to great of an influence over their elected leaders. A study of the policies that were expressed as bills and the bills that were voted into laws in Washington DC from Princeton University exposed the fact that America is more of an Oligarchy than a Democracy or a Republic. The study proved this by simply showing what cohort benefitted the most from the laws passed throughout the years and possibly decades in America and the overwhelmingly favored the wealthy. No matter the issue or issues, the elite benefitted while the lives of everyone else remained stagnant or got marginally worse. This is almost always reflected in the tax code where a simple solution is quite possible.
While I do have my own solution to taxes, as detailed in my petition here, I will present a simple solution that was actually offered by a Republican candidate President about a decade ago. Former governor of Texas, Rick Perry campaigned on simplifying taxes by eliminating all loopholes and charging everyone a flat ten (10) percent. Instead of needing to go to an accountant to figure out how much you owed and what you could deduct, everyone would get a 3-inch by 5-inch card in the mail that simply asked how much you made for the year and instructed you to pay ten (10) percent of that gross. Everyone, including corporations would pay ten (10) percent of whatever profit they made before the year. In this way, millionaires, billionaires and billion-dollar companies as well as the middle class and the poor would all pay their fair share. Paying taxes in this way nullifies any and all instances of corporations not only paying no taxes on billion-dollar profits but it eliminates those same corporations from getting money back from the government in billion-dollar profits.
The problem with such a simple solution is it eliminates yet one reason to vote for any particular candidate. No longer could one campaign on lowering taxes, only to lower them to benefit the rich inordinately. Why would rich donors donate to a campaign if there was no profit in it for them?
So, no. The tax code will continue to be convoluted and confusing. It will continue to be heavily weighted to favor the rich. And, it will continue to be just one more issue that American leaders just can't seem to solve.
In 2018, I wrote a book highlighting the problems Humanity would face if more power, wealth, and control was funneled to a small group of elite individuals, groups, or organizations. In my book, I provided solutions (from myself and others) to the inevitable problems and also a means for the Public to analyze, compare, and contrast the words and deeds of those we choose to follow against reality. In my book Solutions: Enough complaining. Let's fix America.
In "Solutions...", I provide the means for readers to disseminate information as provided by their news sources of choice, their elected officials, and any other authority they choose to follow. The book also offers a means to hold their leaders up, not just to a higher standard than is currently accepted but to one that would improve their lives and the lives of those for whom they care.
