When I ask the question asked in the title, I not necessarily talking about me. I am also not talking about the literal instances of listening with one's ears. I am wondering rather people are paying attention to the narratives that the masses are being spoon fed by their elected leaders and the new stations they watch.
When the world is under threat of nuclear annihilation and there are still stories about influencers getting cancelled or what a woman is, there is something wildly wrong. It seems to me that, given the state of the world, all stories should be about war and the ways in which leaders are using diplomacy to avoid war or foster peace. If not about war and peace, the news should be about economic decline and the ways one can protect themselves from the worst impacts from said decline. If not war and the economy, stories about the return of victory gardens should abound. Why not enlighten this generation on the fact that more people used to know how to grow food. I know that victory gardens can't replace grocery stores but they could serve to supplement your food stocks which could only benefit you in the face of "lower" inflation rates.
Just imagine that, instead of non-native grass that require excessive water, one neighbor grows potatoes, the next peppers, while the third is growing strawberries. Now, imagine if every lawn in America was replaced by some kind of crop. This would mitigate some of the monoculture thT is creating issues with the nutrients in the soil. Imagine if those more remote homes with bigger yards had chickens producing eggs for far less than Publix, Krogers, Target, Walmart. Imagine creating self-sustaining ecosystems where swimming pools are converted into fish farms with edible plants being grown to shade those fish on one end and your chicken poop provides nitrites or nitrates for the soil. This is a world in which scarcity created by the wealthy is mitigated and we begine the process of leaving greed behind. Imagine a world where the stress of paying higher prices for material gooda that don't make us any happier than we are is eliminated. Our parents and grandparents supposedly had harder lives. While this is most likely true, it does not mean their lives were less than. While they shared bonds you just don't see today, we share debts that you just can't justify. How does a country that creates its own money borrow money to create its own money? This makes no sense, but it's indirectly accepted because it is effectively ignored. How did so many goods in America increase in price by 15, 20, 50, 200, 2000 percent when inflation in this country supposedly never went over 10 percent? This could only be accepted in a place where ignorance prevails and information only serves if it distracts from what is really going on.
So, to answer this post's question, most are NOT listening, some are listening but not really hearing and a tiny minority have been listening but no one has been listening to their responses. We all better wake up, because the trend has been down for some time now, the signs have been obvious, but the distractions have been successful making the response negligible.
In 2018, I wrote a book highlighting the problems Humanity would face if more power, wealth, and control was funneled to a small group of elite individuals, groups, or organizations. In my book, I provided solutions (from myself and others) to the inevitable problems and also a means for the Public to analyze, compare, and contrast the words and deeds of those we choose to follow against reality. In my book Solutions: Enough complaining. Let's fix America.
In "Solutions...", I provide the means for readers to disseminate information as provided by their news sources of choice, their elected officials, and any other authority they choose to follow. The book also offers a means to hold their leaders up, not just to a higher standard than is currently accepted but to one that would improve their lives and the lives of those for whom they care.
