Today's resource shortages were created by man, so they can be fixed by man

Updated: May 14, 2023

There is no shortage of resources, at least not a naturally occurring one. The issues with the supply chain that were caused by the virus have been resolved, but many Americans cannot buy the things they need to survive. The problem isn't even that those good aren't available. The problem is that the money for such goods has been relegated to the vaults and bank accounts of people who will never use it because they have more than they can spend in their lifetime, their children's lifetimes and their children's children's lifetimes.

What natural disasters have occurred to cause the housing shortages so many major cities seem to be facing these days? Maybe if corporations like Blackstone didn't outbid so many, the cost of housing wouldn't be so far out of reach for so many would-be home owners. Maybe lower priced homes that the average individual or couple could afford would mean more inventory for lower income individuals or couples.

So, in a single paragraph, a solution to homelessness has been offered up. Now, what about another need... Food. One look around the World provides yet more proof that the rich are, for lack of a better word, stealing a resource that we all need to survive. In America, Bill and Melinda Gates own more farmland than anyone else. Why would they need to own so much? For that matter, why should Bill Gates make 500 million on a 50 million dollar investment in vaccines while so many of us lost almost a years worth of income. And, looking around the globe, Dutch farmers are being forced to sell their farms and sign an agreement to never farm again. Using the excuse of climate change, these farmers are being put out of business in a way that will create shortages that will have to be compensated for by limiting the supply of certain goods, in effect raising the price. What many believe is that current farms would simply be sold to the wealthy, giving the elite more control over the unwashed masses.

As for other resources, why should oil companies get oil for free? I know they pay for lease on federal land, but for the most part, oil companies get free access to something created over millions of years by the planet itself... Earth created oil, so, at the very least, it belongs to us all and while oil companies should get paid to extract, refine and ship oil, why shouldn't the rest of society benefit from this resource? Before you poo poo this idea, look into the Universal Basic Income that every Alaskan gets from oil companies extract the black gold in that state.

And consider water treatment in America. We all need water, so why should this be a money making prospect? I'm not saying there should be no money made by those who build the infrastructure for the processing and purification of water, but should they be getting excessively rich for something we all need to live? Should anyone or any organization be getting super rich from those things we need to survive while others die due to a lack of food, water or shelter? Why should there be a single billionaire on the planet when there is even one man, woman or CHILD that faces starvation, exposure or death due to the lack of resources?

People may say that my opposition to the rich may be due to jealousy or envy and maybe their right... Maybe they're wrong, but does this matter when so many lives are at stake? My jealousy or lack thereof means nothing when compared to the millions who have died as a result of wealth inequality. Who cares if what I'm proposing sounds like Socialism when we could feed, clothe, house and provide clean drinking water to the planet?
